Aaltoes

We’ve gotten some questions about how you can voice your opinion at our upcoming Finland Post Welfare panel event at Finlandia Hall. So we thought we would write a short post on using Twitter, since with 1700 people attending, we think it will be the best way to gather comments from the audience.

We use a Twitter wall at many of our events i.e. we channel tweets with the hashtag #aaltoes to one stream and project them on the wall. This allows people to give real-time feedback and share their thoughts with the whole crowd. It’s also a way to ask questions without interrupting the conversations and comment on what other people say and tweet.

New to Twitter? It’s simple to start:

1) Go to www.twitter.com

2) Register a user name. Keep it short and sweet – it takes up space of the 140 characters per tweet if someones retweets i.e. forwards what you say.

You can also add a pic/avatar and short bio to give more information about yourself, if you want.

3) Learn these few basics:
You can participate in a larger conversation and give your tweets context by adding a #hastag
Eg.  tweeting from one of our event: “I’m having great time here at #aaltoes event.”

You can also reply to other Twitter users with the @-command. E.g. After the event “@aaltoes – Thanks for the great event.”

If someone says something cool you can retweet. You can recognise retweeted messages from the “RT” in front i.e. “RT @aaltoes Thanks to everyone who attended the event.”

At the event itself you can tweet through an app you can download for your smart phone or through a mobile phone with Internet access browser (http://m.twitter.com). Learn more Twitter guidelines here.
