GameBook® is the next generation mobile/digital golf community, combining a groundbreaking social technology platform with cutting edge mobile campaigns to engage golfers globally. We are dedicated to taking the golfing experience to new heights by combining fun and passion for the game with social media.

We are seeking a Web/Front-End Developer to our dynamic team to take GameBook® global.

General requirement for the role: You must ideally already be a multidisciplinary expert as far as web based application development goes, or demonstrate great potential to become one.

You must also have the willingness to learn, our systems and the products and technologies it is based on inside and out.

HTML, JavaScript, CSS, ideally also PHP and popular libraries such as jQuery, etc., should be your friends, or you must be a friend of them.

If you understand databases such as MySQL, content management systems like Drupal, and networking protocols and information exchange technologies (TCP/IP, HTTP, XML, JSON) then those are a definite bonus in your favour.

Your responsibilities will include, among other things, designing, creating and modifying web based user interfaces and related components for our products and online presence.

This involves tasks such as:

Planning and designing for the future

Development, debugging and bug fixing as well as testing your creations

Interacting with suppliers and subcontractors

Occasionally perhaps also talking with actual users

You will support both production and development.

As a person, we wish that you:

Have a background in web based application development

Are creative by nature

Are meticulous, even pixel perfect, but not to the point where it becomes a problem

Are capable of learning quickly (also from your own errors)

Your education and/or experience, as well as your personality must support the aforementioned needs of ours. We will consider both hiring an apprentice that is destined to become a master, or somebody who already is one. If you already are the master, we will recognize it. If you are an apprentice with true potential, we will see that as well.

If you play golf, we will not hold it against you, but rather consider it to be a special advantage.

We offer an opportunity to show what you can do, and to grow your experience in a challenging environment. Capable and passionate employees of a young company will support your success.

If you are interested in the position, please send your application with a detailed resume/CV by February 24th, to our CTO, Petri Bäckström (petri.backstrom@golfgamebook.com).

The perks of being a small, volunteer-based organization like us include the sometimes slow speed of upload. We’ve finally gone through the ample video material from Slush 2011 and will go through the harvest in the next blogposts.

Taking place in early November, Slush Helsinki was a two day conference but most of all a startup expo; we had demo startups in the house that made up a lively corridor of new ventures from all over the Baltic Rim.

Pitch till you drop

The most followed part of the expo, however, ended up being the Slush100 Pitching Competition.

Like all pitching competitions, Slush100 was about clarity of the sales pitch, presentation skills and wow factors. We had a panel of investors and startup experts listening to each pitch and selecting the 20 most entertaining, captivating presentations to the semifinals held on the second day of the event.

From a hundred to twenty to eventually the Top 7 that pitched on the main stage on Thursday evening, the two days were packed with dramatic stage performances, addictive storylines, overselling with confidence and entertaining business ideas.

The cream of the crop in 2011 were…

The winner, Ovelin whose guitar learning app Wild Chords was launched simultanouseously. Ovelin received 10, 000 euros as the first prize of the competition

The rest of the piches can be seen from Aaltoes Youtube Channel.

The trendiest startups of the year

In addition to Slush100 and an Open Mic free form pitching during breaks in schedule, we also invited another category of startups to tell about themselves: Startups on the Rise. What these firms had in common were an interesting product in an interesting stage and well, we just wanted to hear more from them, hence they were invited to join the ride.

Blaast

All in all, thoroughly enjoyable pitches – do take a look at them when you get a chance as these are the startups that will rock the world in future, or die trying’ as the saying goes

Thanks for everyone who took part in pitching – we hope you had fun & learned!
